LS Youth Baseball offers several summer baseball opportunities:  Bay State Tournament of Champions and The Jimmy Fund Little League Program, as well as Lou Tompkins and Minuteman, for older players.

Bay State Tournament of Champions:  is a highly competitive travel league with 3-4 games per week plus practices.  To be eligible for Bay State players must be Little League age 9 –12 (their age on August 31, 2018.)  This is an intense program which requires a high level of commitment from both players and their families.  Bay State players will be expected to take no more than 10 days of vacation from June 18 – August 12. Preferably, no vacation should be planned at all during the last week of June and during the Tournament of Champions, which is the first full week in August. Any player with a travel commitment or vacation plans must make the tryout evaluation team aware of their vacation plans. Vacation plans must be identified on the Bay State registration form.

Please note the age groups below relate to the grade your player is CURRENTLY in:

BayState A: Current 6th Graders and Age Eligible 7th Graders – Coach: Heath Umbach, This team is eligible to compete in the Little League Majors Williamsport Tournament

BayState B: Current 5th Graders – Coach: Jared Butson, This team is eligible to compete in the Massachusetts Little League State 11U Tournament

BayState C: Current 4th Graders – Coach: Marc Gallagher

BayState D: Current 3rd Graders – Coach: Russ Hornbeck

Registration Fees

All players who register for Bay State will pay a registration fee as follows: $650 for A and B; $500 for C and D.  Please note that no child will be refused a spot on the team due to financial reasons. If a family needs relief for a fee, then that family should simply contact LS Youth Baseball. LS Youth Baseball keeps all requests highly confidential, as on the league administrator and president are included in the decision-making process for relief, and no supporting information is requested to make such decisions.  If your child is not placed on a Bay State team, then he/she will be placed on a Jimmy Fund League team and refunded the difference in the registration fees. All past due accounts must be paid in full in order to tryout.

In 2018 Lou Thompkins merged their existing ‘C’ division, which was historically current 7th grade players (13YO) into the ‘B’ division.  The impact of this is that 13YO and 14YO players will be playing in the same league and play each other as in the past they were separate.  LS Youth Baseball will register two teams in Lou Tomkins in 2018, a 7th only team and an 8th grade only team.

Team                            Age Level*
Lou Tompkins “B”         Current 8th Grade Only Coach: Steve Colella, Doug Carroll Baseball U14 Head Coach
Lou Tompkins “B”         Current 7th Grade Only Coach: Brian Fauvel LS JV Baseball Coach. This team will also compete in the Little League Intermediate Division World Series Tournament

LTB tryouts Wednesday, May 30, from 6:00 to 8:00pm under the lights at Feeley. This is for both current 7th grade and 8th grade players.

(Please arrive at 5:30 to warm-up).

Registration Fee for Lou Tompkins B: $850.  All past due accounts must be paid in full in order to tryout.

Minuteman Summer

Minuteman Baseball will run a Summer Minuteman League for 13 - 16 year olds.  This league will be comprised of teams from the same towns as the Minuteman Spring league.  It will provide an opportunity for players to participate in a less competitive and more informal level of play than the Lou Tompkins program.

Games will begin the week of mid-June with games being played on Monday through Thursday nights. The schedule is a 12 game schedule (2 games per week).  The single elimination playoffs will begin on in early August

There are no tryouts for this team and selection will be based on player availability during the summer and the order of receipt of the application forms. The cost of this program is $250.

Jimmy Fund

Jimmy Fund is a league for those who are interested in playing competitive and fun summer baseball but do not want the commitment of Bay State.  There is no assessment and players are placed on balanced teams.

Teams play against other LS teams, and against teams from surrounding towns.

The season will start with a week of practices the week of June 19th.  After the first week, the schedule consists entirely of games, all of which occur on weeknight evenings.  Games start the week of June 26th and run through July 28th. The cost of this program is $175.

Unlike the LSYB spring season, the minors and majors divisions are inter-grade.  The younger players in a division can improve by playing against older, stronger players.  For the older players in a division, they have an opportunity to be the leaders on their team and set an example for their younger teammates.

The divisions and schedules are as follows:

Jimmy Fund Farm - Current 2nd Graders.  Games will be held Monday and Thursday nights.  All games will be at 5:30 or 6:00.

Jimmy Fund Minors - Current 3rd and 4th Graders.  Games will be held Tuesday, Thursday, and alternate Friday evenings.  Most games are at 5:30 or 6:00, but some Featherland games will be at 7:30 under the lights.

Jimmy Fund Majors - Current 5th and 6th Graders.  Games will be held Monday, Wednesday, and alternate Friday evenings.  Most games will be at 5:30 or 6:00.

The majors division will play games on the 50/70 field.  This provides continuity for the players that have played on the 50/70 field in the spring, and provides an introduction to the larger field for the 5th graders.

New 2018 Bat Standards

There is a new USA Baseball Bat Standard (USABat) that took effect January 1, 2018.  LS Youth Baseball is governed by Little League and will adopt this standard.  In summary, for grades 7 and below, you’ll be required to use an approved USABat so please be mindful when holiday shopping.

Additional Information:

  • Per Minuteman league rules (8th & 9th grade), BBCOR bats are required
  • LS Youth Baseball will provide approved bats for all spring teams
  • Here is USA Baseball’s Approved Bat List – https://usabat.com
